Our Economy: The Baby Ruth in the Swimming Pool


Sorry for the overabundance of scatological references but, in case you have not yet rad the news, there are these little turdlets floating around in the Obamanomic punchbowl:

(1) Weekly first-time jobless claims rose 10,000 from an upwardly-adjusted previous week's 373,000 to 383,000.

(2) The ADP May jobs report was put at 133,000 -- up from a downwardly revised 113,000 April report. This number ostensibly represents the private sector jobs created during a month from the folks who provide paycheck software services.

(3) The 1Q 2012 GDP rate was revised downward from 2.2% to 1.9% which is significantly less than the 3% 4Q 2011 rate.

Dunno about you all, but it sure looks like the economy is clamping on the binders. It's technically not a recession but this economy is definitely on life-support. There's this analysis from Ed Morriseey over at Hot Air:
What happens when profits fall? Jobs don’t get created, and business doesn’t expand. Don’t expect a significant boost in job creation this summer, in other words, or perhaps even the fall. Looks like we’re in for another Stagnant Spring and Wreckovery Summer once again.
..it'll be more than that, Ed. Looming just after the election is another debt ceiling fight and gauging by Preezy's Fight or Flight preferences for the last dust-up (and especially if he loses), he'll be playing at least two rounds of golf per day. After that there's the Taxmageddon thing that -- one can be certain -- the lame duck Congress and gummint will want to address in the 20 days or so left in their work year.

Oh yes, and then there's the question of wither ObamaCare (or the unrejected remnants thereof) in 2013. Bottom line: not a screaming amount of certainty in that picture.

So here's the exit question: as a business, given all this, how much hiring will you be doing over the next four or five months?

Naw, mate, the employment, spending, and economic numbers are gonna stink up the barn from now until JugEarz is gone. Hopefully and changefully, that will be on November 6th.

This perhaps comes under that heading, I suppose. You cannot be a stone doofus for four years and not pay the price.

How many of you wake up in the morning to the innocuous, almost-vapid Fox and Friends? You know, all the puff pieces and set-ups for the hard articles that supposedly come at 0600 PDT? Sometimes those three (and their weekend counterparts) do get a little hard-edged and run with something truly edgy. I offer a case in point for your visual enjoyment:


Over on Hot Air, there' s a raging controversy about whether this is nothing more than a blatant 4-minute political advert. (Well, actually, it's pretty one-sided; almost 100% favorable.) Frankly, I don't give a good goddam. How often does JugEarz go on morning shows and get tongue bathed from the knee-pad MSM or lap dances from the cackling hens on The View?

Thank You

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
There is a very moving scene at the end of the movie, Bridges at Toko Ri, where the admiral ponders the nobility and sacrifice made by those sailors, marines, and airmen under his command. He concludes the soliloquy with the poignant question
"..where do we get such men?"

..and may God bless them and keep them in the loving cradle of his arms.

Bright, Shiny Things and Rational Thought!


Over at Hot Air, there is a running mantra (a meme) that refers to "shiny things" and it alludes to The Pantload's campaign attempting to distract the soon-to-be-voting public from this SCOAMF's pathetic and abysmal record as POTUS (with particular attention to his miserable record on the economy).

An example of this is Obama's recent affinity for the subject matter of same-sex marriage and gay rights and all of that hoo-hah. It is, of course, nothing but a cynical ploy to Hoover up more campaign bux from his ultra-lib Hollywood sycophants, get the gay community to open up their wallets, and otherwise create a ruckus.

Needless to say, the fifth-column, fourth estate tongue-bathing MSM is complicit in this effort. Case in point: Romney's alleged bullying and shearing of a high school mate..way back in 1965. The WaPo article, of course, timed to coincide with The Pantload's "coming out" party on ABC.

But, sometimes even when they do address the economy, they shamelessly obscure the facts as skillfully as one of those street-side 3-card Monty dealers. The facts are that a recent poll over at USA Today supposedly paints an imminent picture of a rosy economy: Americans more optimistic economy is looking up, poll says.

So, from the headline, one gathers it;s another puff piece for Plugs and The Pantload. Recovery Summer -- after three resets -- is finally upon us?

Wrong, buffalo breath. To sum things up succinctly, I call upon a comment from one of my favorite Hot Air regulars, Rational Thought (emphasis added):
Oh my gosh. This is unbelievable! Click over to the story. The USA Today headline is: “Americans more optimistic economy is looking up, poll says.” But that isn’t what they polled at all. They polled on the economy a year from now, but wrote a headline that suggests people think the economy is improving now, which they do not — 71% rate the economy as “poor.”

And then you have to read deep into the story to find that a majority — 55% — believe the economy will improve if Romney is elected, and only 46% say that if Obama is re-elected. 27% say the economy would worsen in a Romney first term; 37% say it would worsen in Obama’s second term. Romney’s unfavorables are down to 41%; Obama’s are up to 46%. This poll is devastating for Obama. Devastating. And his media lapdogs have tried to put a shiny Obama bow on it.

Tangential Piss-Off..

This is not about politics, this is about a monumental scam and mega-piss-off being perpetrated by some "anti-malware" companies out there. Here's the deal:

These slimy bastids are seizing on a situation where you download some music or toolbar or some other artsy-fartsy piece of crap and it hauls in something called the "seqrchqu" or "searchnu" toolbar in that takes over your internet browser and -- no matter where the hell you've been -- it brings you back to http://www.searchqu.com/406 or something like that. It's sorta like those annoying web sites that run a Java Script routine that won't let you leave their site. Except it always brings you there first -- to their gimpy, pathetic search engine page. You know, he one that looks like Google before it took Viagra.

The intricacies are actually rather prosaic but it grabbed the War Planner's computer by the short and curlies and refused to release it from its death grip.

I immediately went out all over the internet looking for a solution and got sucked in by all of these lame sites that said:
Plagued by the deadly Searchnu/Searchnu virus? You better get rid of it post-haste before you lose all of your data, all of your teeth fall out, and your member becomes gangrenous. Here are the simple steps to fix it:

(1) Reboot into safe mode.

(2) Download our anti-virus software.

(3) ..run it.

..or variations on that theme.

I immediately went into Chicken Little mode and hit it with everything I had on my hard drive: Malware Bytes, TDSSKiller, Hijack This! and other powerful malware detergents. I even went out and got ComboFix and a bunch of other freebies to throw at it -- and all of them drew the collar; they could not find one byte of malevolence on my machine.

So I downloaded that mega-piece-of-crap, PC Tools Anti-Spyware, and installed it on my machine. After about 15 minutes to install it (!) and another 45 minutes to run its bloated, turtle-like scan, it reported I had a plethora of cookies in my temp locker that could possibly be used to phone home but nothing worth getting in a twist about. But if I wanted to get rid of them, it's gonna cost me almost a centibuck to get the license.

..assholes.

Well, back to searching until I found out this thread on the Mozilla site and dutifully followed the instructions.

All is well now in my office and things are back to normal. Except that I have this slimy feeling that maybe all of those anti-virus companies are using these scare tactics to get us to pony up for their piece of crap software to cure their own viruses.

Rhymes with "DUCK"..

This is a mean post because I am in a mean mood and want to be mean..

I am, in fact, old enough to be this young woman's GRANDfather much less her father, so I don't want to unload on this unfortunate, poverty-stricken diaphragm-deprived wench. But, I keep hearing and reading these news report about her -- most recently over at Hot Air in another fusillade by their vestal ingenue, Tina Korbe -- where Ms Fluke enunciates her intent NOT to STFU, outgassing the usual liberal, victim effluvia:
These attempts to silence women and the men who support them have clearly failed. I know this because I have received so many messages of support from across the country — women and men speaking out because they agree that contraception needs to be treated as a basic health care service.

Who are these supporters?

They are women with polycystic ovarian syndrome, who need contraception to prevent cysts from growing on their ovaries, which if unaddressed can lead to infertility and deadly ovarian cancer. They are sexual assault victims, who need contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

They are Catholic women, who see no conflict between their social justice -based faith and family planning. They are new moms, whose doctors fear that another pregnancy too soon could jeopardize the mother’s health and the potential child’s health too. They are mothers and grandmothers who remember all too well what it was like to be called names decades ago, when they were fighting for a job, for health care benefits, for equality.

They are husbands, partners, boyfriends and male friends who know that without access to contraception, the women they care about can face unfair obstacles to participating in public life. And yes, they are young women of all income levels, races, classes and ethnicities who need access to contraception to control their reproduction, pursue their education and career goals and prevent unintended pregnancy. And they will not be silenced.
Permit a rasty digression from my main rant. Who are these men supporters? Hmmmm. I wonder who they could be? I mean, if I remember my misspent youth, my days in college and my nascent drunken Air Force career correctly -- and it becomes more difficult with each passing day -- these would be guys like me. You know the type, basically a huge, perpetually erect male organ stapled to an emaciated, pimple covered body in search of an -- ahem -- empty parking slot for the night.

"Uh. Yeah, sweetie. We need you to get on the pill so I don't I have to take responsibility for my warp-9 sex hyperdrive. And I don't got no bread, so the gummint has to pay for it."

(I can conjure up mental images of Scotty speaking to Captain Kirk now: "Och! Hoot mon! We've got all our power to the shields, Captain. I dinnae know if I can hold her together! Any minute now, she'll fly apart!")

Anyway, back to my main point which is the many, many times I have heard this woman's name uttered in talk-show and television pieces? It's always the same. Her name is pronounced like it rhymes with..


..or "pluck", or "stuck", or "muck" or..well, you get my drift.

Besides, any decent electronics technician knows that it should be pronounced, um, you know, like it rhymes with:

Andrew Breitbart is dead at age 43, our merry prankster as Hot Air's Ed Morrissey calls him, has passed away from natural causes today. I still reel at the news and cannot write anything substantive. Perhaps later when my sadness abates. I refer you to a previous post I did (not that that has any special merit) and his words below in a speech given at this past month's CPAC:

You do the math II..

All of the ObamaBots and those who swooned over this incredibly worthless POTUS are having a fit of the vapors now that they perceive the economy to be "coming back".

The main theme of all of their Hosannas seems to be the unemployment stats the BLS publishes -- it's now trending downward towards 8.0% but still above the unemployment rate during this clown's regime. (And that occurred on the day he was inaugurated.)

Anyway, this is illusory -- all Bravo Sierra -- as it's a denominator diminution driving this. Here is a hady little graphic from the very same BLS that you should show your Skittle-crapping unicorn friends:

A recent article in Forbes magazine unwraps all of this rotting fish. They come up with different numbers than the BLS, but the message is still the same (emphasis mine):
When Barack Obama entered office in January, 2009, the labor force participation rate was 65.7%, meaning nearly two-thirds of working age Americans were working or looking for work.

When the recession supposedly officially ended in June, 2009, the labor force participation rate was still 65.7%.

In the latest, much celebrated, unemployment report, the labor force participation rate had plummeted to 63.7%, the most rapid decline in U.S. history. That means that under President Obama nearly 5 million Americans have fled the workforce in hopeless despair.

The trick is that when those 5 million are not counted as in the work force, they are not counted as unemployed either. They may desperately need and want jobs. They may be in poverty, as many undoubtedly are, with America suffering today more people in poverty than in the entire half century the Census Bureau has been counting poverty. But they are not even counted in that 8.3% unemployment rate that Obama and his media cheerleaders were so tirelessly celebrating last week.

If they were counted, the unemployment rate today would be a far more realistic 11%, better reflecting the suffering in the real economy under Obamanomics.

Just last month, while the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported finding 243,000 new jobs, they also reported in the same release that an additional 1.2 million workers had dropped out of the work force altogether, giving up hope under Obama. If labor force participation had remained the same in January, 2012 just as it was the month before in December, 2011, the unemployment rate would have risen to 8.7% in January rather than supposedly declining to 8.3% as reported.
It shows that the labor workforce participation (the number of people "available" to work started it's slide mid-2008 but decreased precipitously since January 2009 and has remained chugging along below 59% since then.

These are the people who -- owing to one reason or another, mainly because they could not find work -- have given up and packed it in.

Why?

I dunno. My hope is that these folks will NOT be pulling the lever for this turd-in-chief who passes himself off as our POTUS.

Cost to operate a Chevy Volt

Eric Bolling (Fox Business Channel's Follow the Money) test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors.

For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine.

Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9 gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles. It will take you 4 1/2 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.

According to General Motors, the Volt battery hold 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery.

The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I looked up what I pay for electricity.

I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh.

16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery.

$18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery.

Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine only that gets 32 mpg.

$3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0.10 per mile.

(Note 32miles at $0.75 per mile equates to $23.68/gal. You can be assured the suppliers of gasoline can calculate this too. I can guess where the price-per-gal of gas is going as more of these battery cars are forced upon us by “regulation” via EPA, et al.)

The gasoline powered car initially cost about $15,000 while the Volt costs $46,000.

So Obama wants us to pay 3 times as much for a car that costs more than 7 times as much to run and takes 3 times as long to drive across country.

My good high-school friend, Lieutenant John "Cappy" Robertson -- a platoon leader in Viet Nam who humped into the bush a lot -- sends this to me:
This is what the Navy Seal team looked like when they went in to get Bin Laden. A couple of things to notice: 50 caliber sniper on the right. Knee, knuckle and forearm protection. Various plastic/wire ties. Absolute identity denial to protect their families. Free choice of footwear. Fourth from the right has three artillery simulators and CS gas grenades on his belly. He's the 'shock and awe' guy. This is a group photo of Seal Team Six; can you imagine the look on Bin Laden's face when these guys came through the door.

John goes on:
But let's be clear on this: OBAMA did NOT kill Bin Laden. An American sailor, who Obama, just a few weeks before, was debating on whether or not to PAY, killed Bin Laden! In fact, if you remember a little less than two years ago, his administration actually charged and attempted to court-martial three Navy Seals from Seal Team Six, when a terrorist suspect they captured, complained they had punched him during the take-down and bloodied his nose. Obama’s administration further commented how brutal they were. The left were calling them Nazi's and Baby Killers. Now all of a sudden, the very brave men they vilified are now heroes when they make his administration look good in the eyes of the public. Obama just happened to be the one in office when the CIA finally found the bastard and our sailors took him out.

Essentially, Obama only gave an answer, Yes or No, to him being taken out. This is NOT an Obama victory, but an AMERICAN victory!!

Intransigence..

There is a gentleman who lives in a large U. S. city South of me here in California. He keeps assailing me with notices of his incessant efforts to get Barack Obama impeached on the grounds of citizenship.

Yes, he is a birther and, yes, that ship has sailed.

I wearied of these missives and attempted to "unsibscribe" from his e-mails to no avail. So I had RoadRunner automatically consign them to the trash bin where they will be eventually be flushed. One day, I went to the trash bin, and, while I was pawing through the SEXY TEENAGE CHEERLEADERS WILL SELL YOU VIAGRA and the SEXY TEENAGE KENYAN CHEERLEADER MINISTERS OF FINANCE  notes, I found one of his and thought I'd strike up a conversation with this guy just to see if he had  any depth; was not that one-dimensional. It took a couple of times to get a response but I thought I'd post the conversation with this guy for your edification/amusement.

Now, to be perfectly fair, he is a perfectly nice person. I met him once at a Tea Party demonstration against Bags Pelosi and -- although a little rough around the edges and evincing the mannerisms of a guy who runs a little lean -- he was somewhat enjoyable to speak with. Also, this resurrected e-mail conversation does NOT seek to point out how stupid he is and how brilliant I am. It's just one of those little slices of life we all get as we wait for a bus, sit in the doctor's office, stand at a urinal, etc.

Some of you may agree with him and some of you may agree with me, but that's what makes a horse race.

despises Obama so much will probably be doing more to get him re-elected than

civil circumstances, we would probably have worked together to defeat him. But
you and your obdurate, intransigent, zero-tolerance conservatism along with the
others like you will assure four more years of this flamer and with it an

Our egomaniacal Pantload POTUS will absolutely veto any attempt to scuttle his

Democrats will applaud him as the last bastion against the incredible Tea Party

Finally, what I alluded to before will come to pass. He will appoint AT LEAST
two ultra-liberal justices to the SCOTUS.

The net effect will be to turn this pile of dog crap into a folk hero for the
libs -- a modern day FDR replete with minority affirmative action creds -- all
because narrow-minded gorts like yourself refuse to think strategically; you
prefer the all-out frontal assault instead of a flanking movement. Suggest you
read up on General George Pickett.

But I suppose all of this is way over your head and outside of your ken so let
me couch my response in verbiage more commensurate with your diminished
cognitive processes. Oh yeah, how about this:

O.K., I ain't all that innocent and I did unload on the guy. I am heartily sorry for my tantrum. But I just wanted to let him know the consequences of his actions. I ain't sayin' that ya gotta vote for Romney (or Santorum), but don't tell me you hate Obama, think he's a closet Kenyan, and want to move heaven and Earth to rid this country of him..

..and yet won't pull the lever for the GOP nominee if it's Romney?

TAKING DOWN THE BIRD FEEDER..a metaphor for our times..

I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch & lovingly filled it with delicious seeds.

What a beauty of a bird feeder it was.

Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food.

But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio above the table and next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table..

..everywhere!

Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own good intentions and limited budget.

Other birds became unruly, boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore.

So I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like it used to be -- quiet, serene -- and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now let's see.

Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to to be an automatic citizen.

Then the illegals came by the millions. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for all those FREE services. Now we have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor.

Our child's second grade class has fallen behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English.

Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box. I have to press “one” to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than 'Old Glory' are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and more freebies.

Just my opinion, but maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder.

It depends how they made their money. Mitt didn’t earn his as a corrupt currency manipulator, or, er, as a reality show star. You all have plenty to criticize him over, to refuse to even acknowledge his unparallelled skills as (and commendable work ethic) is just more BCS*. Men like Jack Welch and Thomas Sternberg and Bernie Marcus know w.t.h. they’re talking about when they lavish praise on Romney for his incomporable leadership and business skills. *Bitter Clinger Syndrome.

BLAH BLAH BLAH. Seriously, do you have any idea how annoying it to hear people misuse words like “corporatism”? I’m beyond fed up with candidates whining that they can’t win because they don’t have enough money to fund their campaign (and their whiny supporters). Here’s a clue: Plan ahead, get your ducks in a row, and raise money before you run.
It is patently absurd to imagine that he wouldn’t. He has emphasized his commitment in every speech he gives and the plan he published when he began his campaign. There is no way in the freaking world that he would renege on that, even if he wanted to, and he doesn’t. If President Romney does not do all that a POTUS can do to repeal ObamaCare in full, he would promptly be tarred, feathered and run out of town on a rail. And yes, I’ll bring the feathers.

Exactly. They can’t handle the truth. It’s not coincidental that many of the people who make this preposterous argument are bitter Palinistas who will use any excuse to deride him, no matter how out of touch with reality. They hold a grudge against him because one Nicole Wallace, who worked for McCain, said mean things about Sarah and in their Tin Foil Hat world, that was Romney’s fault.
I am one of those who will not vote for Romney for any office and not feeling guilty because we have no clue how he would govern as he has flip flopped so much. His speech yesterday at CPAC was a lie because ten years ago he ran for MA Governor as a liberal so he has not lived the life of a conservative unless it was for votes.
