Pinball Wizard..

Condemning those who boycott Israel, playing at Rush Limbaugh's wedding because he's a capitalist, and now playing in Arizona and condemning those who boycott that state:

Elton John didn't mince words in slamming his fellow musicians for boycotting Arizona over the controversial SB 1070 immigration law. From the stage at his sold-out Tucson Arena concert Thursday night, John savored a few choice, not-so-family-friendly words:

"We are all very pleased to be playing in Arizona. I have read that some of the artists won't come here. They are (expletive)wits! Let's face it: I still play in California, and as a gay man I have no legal rights whatsoever. So what's the (expletive) with these people?"

..I love Sir Elton because, as one Hot Air! commenter says, "This guy's figured it out." Besides his version of PBW is absolutely better than Daltry's original. It's got zip, pizazz and is wonderfully over the top!

So, who's it gonna be? Sir Elton John or that purifying pile of putrid puke, Paul "ain't seen no libraries" McCartney.

(Last gratuitous opportunity to run that sack's picture.)

  1. If you ask me, none of these musicians have any credibility to talk about anything other than music.

Shut up and play, Sir Elton. And just shut up, period, Sir Paul.

  2. My daughter was at Elton John's post-Academy Award party this year. She was surprised that he was a gentleman in the face of so many other Hollywood freaks who were quite the opposite.

I agree with Fredd - let them play music, let us enjoy it, but their political opinions don't matter one whit.

  3. Gentlemen,

Still it's nice to see Sir Elton stand up for Israel and Arizona the way he did. It is a paper-thin veneer but a veneer nonetheless.

Actually, I thought the tings he said about California were pretty bold -- going against the usual over-the-top gay "party" line.

But, slicing the baloney thin, one wonders how many rights a non-citizen have in the U.S.?

    ..just speculating.

Fredd: in answer to a question you asked the other day (they may get buried but not forgotten) I think what's happening to the PAC 10 is regrettable. hey add Colorado and Utah and -- disregarding their relative strengths -- then proceed to mis-align the match-ups by "refudiating" natural geographical associations. A lot of us in SoCal (including the soon-to-be-nutless Trogams) lament the loss of the Bay Area trips every other year.

I am guessing Cal and Standford only get UCLA and USC in odd or off years.

But, what the heck, I pissed and moaned when they let the Arizona schools in.

It's the bottom line, don't you know.

  5. I didn't know that Elton John had crossed so many picket lines. I respect people who can stand up to pc thought. The world needs more people with his strength.

  6. Elton deserves props. He took a big PC hit playing Rush Limbaugh's wedding, playing in Israel and was chastened by GLADD (please, no "whips and chains" references). He gets kudos from me.

  7. Lip,

He's a mensch; he belongs in that same beloved circle of special friends of "our movement" at the Hill Buzz Boyz -- which just go to show you (well, me, anyway) that politics don't necessarily dictate love of country or love of principles.

Opie, I talked to Odie on the phone for the first time tonight (to thank him for helping out with my site woes) and he says "hello".

When he heads South for his annual SoCal Sojourn, we should all make it a point to get together. Besides, I need another opportunity to have LL spin some yarns. And I want you all to meet Lipton if he is back from the Gulf.

  8. I guess Sir Elton realizes that people pay to hear his music not his politics. It's just good business.

  9. Ma'am,

Yea, but like the HillBuzz Boyz, if he ever does express an opinion on something I don't agree with, I'll pay him the courtesy of listening to what he has to say -- because of his courageousness.

By the way, nice to see you; you're out kinda late tonight. But I am always happy when you stop by. And that reminds me, I gotta do a plug for your great write-up on the POSOTUS's vacation schedule.

    'scuse me.
