WHO IS THIS IDIOT?

..why, he's our very own SLOW JOE BIDEN (A.K.A., VPOTUS FLAT-LINE), that's who;

Obama's campaign wanted distractions from his pathetic record? Well, he's got one. In fact, maybe that's why he picked VEEP FLAT-LINE in the first place.

Wadda ya'all think?

Feelin' the love..

Man, this Obama guy sure is one hell of a uniter. I mean, he promised he would bring us together in 2008 and certainly has. I mean, listen to what some of our black brothers and sisters are saying about the upcoming election:

UPDATE: I pulled the link to the Adobe Player above because it kept imploding. I dunno where to find the audio spewed by these hate-filled miscreants. Google it. I frankly think they are demented and suck rocks.

GOD, I LOVE THIS JOB!

This is a MUST SEE! Larry Kudlow (the smarter half of the former Kudlow & Kramer finance pair) interviews Rudy Guiliani:

KUDLOW: You know, what did he say? ‘Y’all going to be put back in chains’? That almost has racial overtones, Rudy Giuliani. What’s your take on that?

GIULIANI: Well, I think if it came from somebody serious maybe we’d get all excited about it. But the — I think the vice president of the United States has become a laugh line on late night television. I mean, he — I’ve never seen a vice president that has made as many mistakes, said as many stupid things. I mean, there’s a real fear if, God forbid, he ever had to be entrusted with the presidency, whether he really has the mental capacity to handle it. I mean, this guy just isn’t bright. He’s never been bright. He isn’t bright. And people think, ‘Well, he just talks a little too much.’ Actually he’s not very smart.

Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

Here it is live:

Chain lightening from VPOTUS FLAT-LINE..

"..but we're gonna feed you, and house you, and take care of you back on our Dem plantation.."
Looks like Slow Joe's getting geared up for October 11th; he's got the gaff-o-matic on "Full Tilt Boogie":
PLUGS, THE GAFFE-MASTER: They’ve said it. Every Republican’s voted for it. Look at what they value and look at their budget and what they’re proposing. Romney wants to let the—he said in the first 100 days, he’s going to let the big banks once again write their own rules–unchain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains. He’s said he’s going to do nothing about stopping the practice of outsourcing...
In the meantime, THE PANTLOAD went into full retreat mode, unwinding this really patronizing racist jewel:
From the Obama campaign: “For months, Speaker Boehner, Congressman Ryan, and other Republicans have called for the ‘unshackling’ of the private sector from regulations that protect Americans from risky financial deals and other reckless behavior that crashed our economy. Since then, the Vice President has often used a similar metaphor to describe the need to ‘unshackle’ the middle class. Today’s comments were a derivative of those remarks, describing the devastating impact letting Wall Street write its own rules again would have on middle class families. We find the Romney campaign’s outrage over the Vice President’s comments today hypocritical, particularly in light of their own candidate’s stump speech questioning the President’s patriotism. Now, let’s return to that ‘substantive’ debate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan promised 72 hours ago, but quickly abandoned.”
Hey fellas, if you're explainin', you're not winnin'.

"..let my people go.."

UPDATE: Watch the vid below and then listen to the fever-swamp-dwelling Dems go medieval on Ryan. This is Erskine Bowles "former chief of staff to President Clinton and a leading Democratic grandee" according to Steven Hayward over at PowerLine Blog. I mean, this guy Bowles has some serious bone fides in Dem economic circles and yet he just gushes over Paul:

Out standing in his field..

How utterly metaphoric is this shot of our clueless POTUS standing in a drought-stricken Iowa corn field trying to ignite the magic of four years ago.
President Barack Obama often says Iowa holds a special place in his heart. Iowans in 2008 lifted him from underdog presidential hopeful to Democratic caucus winner, and gave him 54 percent of the vote in that year’s general election.

He began a three-day bus tour through the state today on less sure footing, with polls showing Iowa up for grabs in November. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney sent his newly-announced running mate, Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, to the Iowa State Fair today to try to steal some of Obama’s thunder.
In the mean time, Ryan was working the crowds over at the Iowa State Fair and dealing with some hecklers:

<

..yeah, because nothing sways my opinions more than a couple of angry, militant, menopausal lesbians screaming in my face. Meantime, VPOTUS Flat-Line (Slow Joe Biden) was packing them in at an auditorium in North Carolina:
Vice President Joe Biden spoke before a crowd of 660 people in Durham, N.C., at the Durham Armory during a campaign stop for President Barack Obama on Monday. Biden’s appearance before a comparatively meager crowd came a day after the newly formed Republican ticket — presidential candidate Mitt Romney and running mate Paul Ryan — rallied a crowd of over 10,000 in High Point, N.C., about an hour away, and a crowd of approximately 4,700 people in Mooresville, N.C., about two-and-a-half hours away.
Hmmmmmmm. Just spitballin' here, but armories are pretty big places, aren't they? Those folks musta rattled around that building like the BBs in Biden's empty cranium. And it seems that the enthusiasm and crowds showing up for the Romney Ryan ticket is becoming a concern for the Pantload Campaign. They sent out the following fundraising plea:
Paul --

I just got this disturbing report: Yesterday's Romney-Ryan rally in North Carolina pulled in an overflow crowd of 15,000 people. There's no spinning that number. It's a LOT of people, and the Republican base in energized.

And that's not all. Since the VP announcement, Romney's campaign has brought in over 70,000 donations from his Tea Party base. We've got to step up our game and mobilize our supporters -- starting right now. Donate $3 or right now to help us rally our base around President Obama's agenda.

Listen to what one Republican supporter said about Paul Ryan: "I love him...He's going to excite the Tea Party and get them on board..."

We can't let the Republicans claim the momentum. Donate $3 or whatever you can: http://dccc.org/Eat-Shit-And-Die

Thanks,

So then there's that..

Texas, U.S.A.

A good friend sent me the proposition below and, since I was born in Victoria, Texas, I assume I would automatically be granted citizenship.

Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union. Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848. An interesting and less whimsical discussion of Texas's secession can be found here.

But it's still reassuring to know that I got someplace to go if Obama gets re-elected and the whole thing goes into the dumper.
We Texans love y'all, but we'll probably have to take action if Barack Obama wins the election. We'll miss you too.

Here is what can happen:

1: Barack Hussein Obama is President of the United States, and Texas secedes from the Union in summer of 2013.

2: George W. Bush will become the President of the Republic of Texas. You might not think that he talks too pretty, but we haven't had another terrorist attack, and the economy was fine until the effects of the Democrats lowering the qualifications for home loans came to roost.

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?

1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. We will control the space industry.

2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.

3. Defense Industry -- we have over 65% of it. The term "Don't mess with Texas," will take on a whole new meaning.

4. Oil -- we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. What will the other states do? Gee, we don't know. Why not ask Obama?

5. Natural Gas -- again we have all we need, and it's too bad about those Northern States. John Kerry and Al Gore will have to figure out a way to keep them warm.

6. Computer Industry -- we lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications equipment -- small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Microconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Nortel, Alcatel, etc. The list goes on and on.

7. Medical Care -- We have the research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. The Houston Medical Center alone employees over 65,000 people.

8. We have enough colleges to keep us getting smarter: University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Rice, SMU, University of Dallas, University of Houston, Baylor, UNT (University of North Texas), Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.

9. We have an intelligent and energetic work force, and it isn't restricted by a bunch of unions. Here in Texas, it's a Right to Work State and, therefore, it's every man and women for themselves. We just go out and get the job done. And if we don't like the way one company operates, we get a job somewhere else.

10. We have essential control of the paper, plastics, and insurance industries, etc.

11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, and several military bases. We don't have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over the Texas Rangers.

12. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let's not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good. Don't need any food.

13. Three of the ten largest cities in the United States and twenty-three of the 100 largest cities in the United States are located in Texas. And Texas also has more land than California, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Vermont combined.

14. Trade: Three of the ten largest ports in the United States are located in Texas.

15. We also manufacture cars down here, but we don't need to. You see, nothing rusts in Texas, so our vehicles stay beautiful and run well for decades.

This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have.

Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama: Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 5 mpg SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite communications. You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.

Signed,
The People of Texas
..and The War Planner

Go ahead, make my day..

"..why, me and Smith and Wesson.."
From the ABC blog:
Clint Eastwood Endorses Romney

Mitt Romney got some celebrity love when Clint Eastwood showed up at his high-dollar fundraiser this evening in Idaho to offer his endorsement of the presumptive GOP nominee.

When the Oscar-winning director was asked why he was supporting Romney, Eastwood responded, “Because I think the country needs a boost somewhere.”

Eastwood, who has a home near the Sun Valley Resort where the fundraiser was held, was wearing grey sneakers, beige slacks, a green blazer and a pair of sunglasses, when reporters spotted him.

Eastwood endorsed — and campaigned for — Sen. John McCain during the 2008 election and was forced to clarify that he was not supporting Obama after he voiced a Super Bowl ad about the recovering auto industry earlier this year.

8.254%

So, his BLS comes out with the fact that the simple unemployment number rose to 8.3% -- and The Pathetic Pantload POTUS trots out a shill to correct that by telling us that it's really

8.254%

because, um, you know that number is LESS ONEROUS than 8.3% -- much the same way $9.99 is LESS ONEROUS than $10. He must think we're f**king stoopid! Or, he must think his followers are f**king stoopid! Either way, there's two things I'm thinking here.

Thing One
Why 8.254%? I mean, why not 8.25%? Well, for one thing, those folks who are smart enough to catch this flim-flam would just say to them selves, "Hey, 8.25% is really 8.3% rounded, innit?" and then they would round the number up to 8.3% anyway. So they added the extra 0.004% because, like, you round down if it's less than 0.005% otherwise you'd really have an impetus to round up to 8.3%. (Good thing it wasn't a recurring fraction -- like 8.3333333..% or 8.26666666..% -- because it'd be like one of those Dumb Blonde jokes. You know, where the poor girl gets fascinated and keeps staring and staring?)

Thing Two
The rest of the folks (i.e., Obama's union and teacher supporters and other math-challenged types) might actually think that 8.254% is more than 8.3% because -- I dunno -- more numbers or something.

Remember, there's a stat around somewhere that said something like 70% of the high school dropouts voted for Obama. So then there's that.

Blowing jobs numbers..

Well, there were 163,000 jobs added in July -- or so the gummint BLS tells us. It's a good news/bad news proposition, however. Firstly, if the numbers can be believed, this is supposedly good as it represents a figure above what had been widely anticipated: around 75,000.Moreover, the more recognizable unemployment rate went from 8.2% to 8.3%. This figures to be bad -- in the short run -- for a fumbling and inept POTUS and his lackluster crew of faculty-lounge rejects. Also, from that point on, it all goes down hill. Ed Morrissey, over at Hot Air describes the down-side:
However, there is more bad news than good. July saw a slight move up in U-6, which had been coming down earlier in the year to the mid-14 range. That measure of un/underemployment has now risen to 15.2%, increasing in both adjusted and unadjusted measures. It’s the highest rating in this measure since February, and it’s now up more than a full point since April.

The workforce lost 150,000 people last month, after adding 156,000 in June. The civilian-participation rate dropped a tenth of a point to almost hit the 30-year low again it reached in April. The measure of people not in the workforce jumped by 348,000, which may be why the jobless rate only went up a tenth of a point.
I grew tired of piecing this number together month after month, so I sought a way to put it all into perspective without lefty or righty spin and I came up with the BLS URL for these monthly job creation numbers for the past decade or so.

Reviewing these above, I came to the following conclusions:

  1. The first year Obama was in office (with Reid and Pelosi at the controls of the Congress, 2009, the economy LOST and average of 422,000 jobs per month.
  2. In 2010, it only gained an average of 86,000 per month.
  3. In 2011, it averaged 153,000 per month.
  4. And so far this year, job creation it has tailed off precipitously after January and February (at over 250,000 per month each), to average 151,000 — which includes this month’s spike upward.
..and the inevitable interrogatory: “It worked”(?)

I will leave further analysis to you but, ere I part, would add this troubling graphic (at least for The Pantload POTUS) from the WaPo blog. It proportionally depicts job creation from past administrations through the present. Note that Obama's little slice of this sheet cake is the sliver on the bottom right.

UPDATE: Hot Air commenter ITGuy adds this screed and his analysis -- for a little more perspective:
It was the Democrats who drove the economy into the ditch, including Senator Obama who was a Senator in the minority in 2005-6, a Senator in the majority 2007-8, and a top recipient of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac campaign contributions.

It wasn’t the Bush Tax Cuts that tanked the economy. It was the Democrats’ reckless, irresponsible, and likely criminal handling of Fannie/Freddie the created the sub-prime mortgage crisis that tanked the economy. And his crony capitalist Stimulus made things WORSE, not better.

And let’s not forget that in early January 2009, Obama specifically asked President Bush to request the second half of the TARP money. Bush got all of the blame, but Obama got half of the TARP money.

The 2003 Bush Tax Cuts turned the economy around and added over 8 million jobs in 4 years, and even though tax rates went DOWN, revenues went UP… FY 2007 receipts were 44% LARGER than FY 2003 receipts.

It was the policies and practices of Democrats that drove the economy into the ditch and have kept it in the ditch for the last three years.

What did Obama and the Democrats “inherit” when they took majority control?

Due to the policies of George W. Bush and the Republican majorities in the House and Senate, on January 3, 2007 Obama and the Democrats “inherited” an Employment-population ratio that was 63.4%. (December 2006 number)

By September 2009, the Democrat majority had driven that down to 58.7%, and it has not been above that number since. We’re currently at 58.4% and the Obama administration thinks that is “good news”.

Gaffmeister? Kiss my Ass? Show some respect!

Again work conspires to cause me to be late to the dance on this one, but there is a certain quaint charm and a definite advantage to tardiness. I believe in& chic circles is it referred to being "fashionably late"..unless you run with Ferris Beuller's bride, Horse Face, she of the $750 Jimmy Choos and her stable mate, Anna "the" Wintour "of our Discontent" where your are counseled strictly, "Don't be late!"

Anyway, I am working too hard on these preambles. But, along these lines is the outfall of a severely-extended press corps, working their asses off to make Mitt Romney's European sojourn out to be like a Joe Biden visit to a 7-11 in New Jersey. (Or New Delhi, take your pick.) Let's recount:

Romney visits Merrye Olde Englande and, in an interview with an unctuous Brian Williams, is perceived to express some slight concern over the Brits preparation for the London Olympics. Of course, this causes half of that Socialists Workers' Paradise population, a score of its lefty politicians, and virtually all of its press corpse to swoon in a fit of the vapors. Two days after leaving, it was discovered that there were serious problems in attendance at some of the venues with whole sections of seating at prime events going empty and the ChiComs are up to their usual stunts, allegedly doping their swimmers and throwing throwing badmintion matches. To paraphrase The Carpenters, "We've Only Just Begun".

He then goes to Israel, meets with long-time friend and regular Obama slightee, Benjamin Netanyahu. He delivers an out-of-the-park four bagger on the eve of the Jewish sabbath to a wildly appreciative audience and receives the general acclaim of Israelis everywhere for the friendship and allegiance to their country. Again, however, the poor, trammeled-upon Palestinians commence hyperventilating and accuse him of being a mean and nasty guy because he, well, likes Jews and they don't.

finally, he goes to Poland -- you know the Land of Death Camps run by the Poles in WWII -- and again expresses his admiration for Poland and its bravery in staring down the Soviet Union and communism. He receives a ringing endorsement from Lec Walesa and general approval of the Poles.

Now I have not gotten into the details of this, but needless to say, the ass-kissing, kneepad-wearing MSM in this country are trying to unburnish this visit lest it cast a huge shadow on their Beloved Pantload's diplomatic efforts to date. You know, the ones where he bear-hugs dictators and despots, prostrates himself before sultans and emperors, hands out iPods with his speeches on them, and yaks his way through the English equivalent of our National anthem.

But it is with the visit to Poland's Tomb of the Unknown soldier where the desperation of these bum osculators seem most shrill. They are caught shouting questions at Romney as he goes to a solemn wreath laying and they become so obstreperous that one of his aids rquest they show some respect. In a later exchange, this aid upbraids them and advises that they can kiss his ass. (Hell, they're used to doing that with Obama, so why not?)

Anyway, here's the incident in real time. Ask yourself how ould the press have treated this were it Obama (or any POTUS) at the Tomb of the Unknown in Arlington, Virginia?

And this is where it gets delicious being tardy. Based on the above, there are two music thingies that emphasize what assholes these presstards were. Here's an MP3 link. Here's a link to another audio track. Enjoy.

Don't try this at home..

..I am a professional!

I just got into shooting black powder revolvers. You know this; I posted this earlier. (He said in a cheap, shameless attempt to amp blog hits.) That said, I got a holster from Cabela's for my 1858 Remington .44 and my son's 1860 Colt Army. If you need one, I highly recommend the Triple K model the sell.

It is about $25, they don't charge you shipping (ends October 1st) if you "join their club", I don't have to give a cut to that burned out old Hippie, Jerry Brown, and they are not as stiff as you might think. A little hot water and the pistol -- covered with a plastic baggie, of course -- inserted is all that is necessary to form an excellent fit.

I got the burgundy color as shown above but did not get the matching belt. After spending the day heading around SoCal looking for something suitable, I am relenting and going to throw in for the belt. (Same financial reasons as above.)

Well, in looking at the offering on Cabela's this morning, I came across this review:
..so many straight lines, so little time. I'll just leave you with these thoughts: some people just cannot master complicated machinery and maybe someone in the "Show Me" state needs to get with that poor unfortunate and explain to him how to operate a belt buckle.

Just because..

Screw the towel heads; it's Ramadan again. It's a holiday that seems to come up every three weeks whether we need it or not. Anyway, I stumbled onto these guys thanks to my Brother-in-Arms over on Hot Gas, schadenfreude:

It's good stuff. I think I am going to track down their other efforts and spring for their songs or CDs or whatever and support them. Although I am sure they did not build their business themselves, we need to keep free enterprise going in this country..

..and give a giant Foxtrot Uniform to Obama and his crowd of pimple-popping slimebags.

By the way, if you ever get over to Hor Gas, visit the threads and look for schadenfreude. He has morphed into a tidbit-generating daemon and is, generally en fuego. A true treasure and resource! Here is a sample of his work:
They are Pat Caddell and Doug Schoen, the former a very sane D, used to work for Carter (don’t hold it against him – he is really one of the nicest Ds around), the latter is a pollster and analyst. They are both very nice gents, on Fox a lot (this makes the leftists sizzle) and they dare be objective, criticize the Ds for their incredible idiocies. They are the Kennedy type Ds, the sane ones, of which there are very few left. Kennedy, if he’d get to look back, would instantly die again at what insanity he’d observe in what used to be his party.

Keep an eye out for the two gents. You will likely agree. They are both smart too, meaning they use their brains and don’t spew marching orders. They think for themselves.

Aurora..

As others, I am deeply saddened by the act of that deranged person in Aurora, Colorado early this morning. I also lament the fact that so may seek to make it political. Conjecture is that ABC tried to tie this to the Tea Party. You be the judge:

All of the Hollywood and the liberal crowd got really busy with their anti-gun mantra and even NPR (on our dime, by the way), got into the act. Of course, The Pantload weighed in on this, engaging in his narcissistic, self-referential style:
THE PRESIDENT: Well, let me, first of all, say how gratefulIam for all of you being here, and how much we appreciate everything that you’ve done. Iknow that there are a lot of people here who have been so engaged in the campaign, have sacrificed so much, people who’ve been involved back since 2007. (Applause.) And so I want all of you to know how appreciative I am.
And I know many of you came here today for a campaign event. I was looking forward to having a fun conversation with you about some really important matters that we face as a country and the differences between myself and my opponent in this election. But this morning, we woke up to news of a tragedy that reminds us of all the ways that we are united as one American family.
By now, many of you know, many of you have heard that a few miles outside of Denver in a town call Aurora, at least 12 people were killed when a gunman opened fire in a movie theater, and dozens more are being treated for injuries at a local hospital. Some of the victims are being treated at a children’s hospital.
We’re still gathering all the facts about what happened in Aurora, but what we do know is that the police have one suspect in custody. And the federal government stands ready to do whatever is necessary to bring whoever is responsible for this heinous crime to justice. (Applause.) And we will take every step possible to ensure the safety of all of our people.
We’re going to stand by our neighbors in Colorado during this extraordinarily difficult time. And I had a chance to speak with the Mayor of Aurora as well as the Governor of Colorado to express, not just on behalf of Michelle and myself, but the entire American family, how heartbroken we are.
Now, even as we learn how this happened and who’s responsible, we may never understand what leads anybody to terrorize their fellow human beings like this. Such violence, such evil is senseless. It’s beyond reason. But while we will never know fully what causes somebody to take the life of another, we do know what makes life worth living. The people we lost in Aurora loved and they were loved. They were mothers and fathers; they were husbands and wives; sisters and brothers; sons and daughters, friends and neighbors. They had hopes for the future and they had dreams that were not yet fulfilled.
And if there’s anything to take away from this tragedy it’s the reminder that life is very fragile. Our time here is limited and it is precious. And what matters at the end of the day is not the small things, it’s not the trivial things, which so often consume us and our daily lives. Ultimately, it’s how we choose to treat one another and how we love one another. (Applause.)
It’s what we do on a daily basis to give our lives meaning and to give our lives purpose. That’s what matters. At the end of the day, what we’ll remember will be those we loved and what we did for others. That’s why we’re here.
I’m sure that many of you who are parents here had the same reaction that I did when I heard this news. My daughters go to the movies. What if Malia and Sasha had been at the theater, as so many of our kids do every day? Michelle and I will be fortunate enough to hug our girls a little tighter tonight, and I’m sure you will do the same with your children. But for those parents who may not be so lucky, we have to embrace them and let them know we will be there for them as a nation.
So, again, I am so grateful that all of you are here. I am so moved by your support. But there are going to be other days for politics. This, I think, is a day for prayer and reflection.
So what I’d ask everybody to do, I’d like us to pause in a moment of silence for the victims of this terrible tragedy, for the people who knew them and loved them, for those who are still struggling to recover, and for all the victims of less publicized acts of violence that plague our communities every single day. So if everybody can just take a moment.
(Moment of silence.)
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you, everybody. I hope all of you will keep the people of Aurora in your hearts and minds today. May the Lord bring them comfort and healing in hard days to come.
I am grateful to all of you, and I hope that as a consequence of today’s events, as you leave here, you spend a little time thinking about the incredible blessings that God has given us.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: We love you, Obama! (Applause.)
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you very much, everybody. God bless you. God bless the United States of America. (Applause.)
END
..doesn't it just give you a tingle when we have such a leader who loves himself this much? Here is Romney's take on the incident. In his entire statement, Mitt only used the personal vertical pronoun twice..at the beginning:
MITT ROMNEY: Good morning, and thank you for joining with the senator and me on this very sad day. And thank you to Father Christian for beginning this gathering with a -- with a word of prayer. Our -- our hearts break with the sadness of this unspeakable tragedy. Ann and I join the president and first lady and all Americans in offering our deepest condolences for those whose lives were shattered in a few moments -- a few moments of evil -- in Colorado. I stand before you today not as a man running for office but as a father and grandfather, a husband, an American. This is a time for each of us to look into our hearts and remember how much we love one another and how much we love and how much we care for our great country. There’s so much love and goodness in the heart of America. In the coming days we’ll surely learn more about the lives that have been lost and the families that have been harmed by this hateful act. We’ll come to know more about the talents and the gifts that each victim possessed, and we’ll come to understand the hope and the opportunity that’s been lost. Our hearts break for the victims and their families. We pray that the wounded will recover and that those who are grieving will know the nearness of God. Today we feel not only a sense of grief, but perhaps also of helplessness. But there is something we can do. We can offer comfort to someone near us who is suffering or heavy-laden. And we can mourn with those who mourn in Colorado. This morning Colorado lost youthful voices which would have brightened their homes, enriched their schools and brought joy to their families. Our prayer is that the comforter might bring the peace to their souls that surpasses our understanding. The Apostle Paul explained, blessed be God, who comforteth us in all our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble. What we do know is how evil is overcome. And we’re seeing that greater power today in the goodness and compassion of a wounded community. Grieving and worried families in Aurora are surrounded with love today, and not just by those who are with them and holding them in their arms. They can also know that they’re being lifted up in prayer by people in every part of our great nation. Now and in the hard days to come, may every one of them feel the sympathy of our whole nation and the comfort a living God. There will be justice for those responsible, but that’s another matter for another day. Today is a moment to grieve and to remember, to reach out and to help, to appreciate our blessings in life. Each one of us will hold our kids a little closer, linger a bit longer with a colleague or a neighbor, reach out to a family member or friend. We’ll all spend a little less time thinking about the worries of our day and more time wondering about how to help those who are in need of compassion most. The answer is that we can come together. We will show our fellow citizens the good heart of the America we know and love. God bless you for being here and sharing together this moment of sorrow. And God bless the United States of America. Thank you. (Applause.)
UPDATE: Actually, the Conservative/Tea Party Gunman meme is considerably toned down of late and I am beginning to suspect that it is because sources are turning up the possibility that this murdering wing nut had some unsavory left-wing affiliations. These are not substantiated but it seems this guy MIGHT have had some pretty scary affiliations with the so-called "BLACK BLOC" -- a fringe movement of the OWS crowd:
New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Friday that the alleged gunman in the attack on a packed theater in Colorado identified himself as Batman’s arch-enemy “The Joker” after he sprayed bullets into a midnight showing of “Batman: The Dark Knight Rises.” “He had his hair painted red, he said he was ‘The Joker,’ obviously the ‘enemy’ of Batman,” Kelly said at a news conference in New York City. Well that’s nice but none of the charactes who played the “Joker” in recent Batman movies had red hair so where is Ray Kelly getting his info? James Holmes, DOB 12/13/1987: The Batman movie portrays the OWS crowd in a negative vein, the new Batman movie featured the villain as an Occupy Wall Street type. I would first look at the possibility that James Holmes, DOB 12/13/1987, was caught up in the OWS movement took it upon himself to strike back against “THE MAN. James E Holmes 1690 Paris St, Apt 10 Aurora, CO 80010-2918 James E. Holmes is 24 year old he is from San Diego CA. The suspected Colorado movie mass murderer was a loner and graduate school dropout. Shooter James Holmes Targets Cops Who Respond to His Aurora Apartment With Bombs. The apartment of the man suspected in the mass shooting at a Denver-area screening of the latest Batman movie is “booby-trapped” with an array of sophisticated material, the local police chief said Friday. Speaking at the scene where police were working to gain access to the apartment, Aurora Police Chief Daniel Oates said: “His apartment is booby-trapped. We are trying to determine how to disarm the flammable or explosive material. We could be here for hours or days. The pictures are fairly disturbing. It looks very sophisticated, how it’s booby-trapped. It could be a very long wait.”

..again, that link is highly suspect and this has not been sourced AT ALL, but it would not be surprising if this guy turned out to be a huge stink bomb for the left, would it not?

Forgive and fugeddaboutit..

Nancy Reagan recently made the news regarding the possibility of John Hinckley's being paroled from custody -- there is speculation Hinckley may soon be released as having been rehabilitated. (You might recall that John Hinckley was a seriously deranged young man who shot President Reagan in the early 1980's. Hinckley was absolutely obsessed with movie star Jodie Foster, and, in his twisted mind, loved Jodie to the point that to make himself well known to her, he attempted to assassinate President Reagan.)

Mrs Reagan's outreach to Mr Hinckley is a lesson we all should learn in forgiveness;  she remains the epitome of elegance and grace. You will appreciate the following letter she wrote to him:

To: John Hinckley
From: Mrs. Nancy Reagan

My family and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we are with the great strides you are making in your recovery. In our country's spirit of understanding and forgiveness, we want you to know that we bear no grudge against you for shooting Ronnie.

We are fully aware that mental stress and pain could have driven you to such an act of desperation. We're confident that you will soon make a complete recovery and return to your family to join the world again as a healthy and productive man.

Best wishes,

Nancy Reagan & Family

P.S. - While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look into that.

Smokin' [A]hole..

A large jet plane crashed on a farm in the middle of rural Tennessee . Panic stricken, the local sheriff mobilized and descended on the farm in full force. By the time they got there, the aircraft was totally destroyed with only a burned hull left smoldering in a tree line that bordered the farm. The sheriff and his men entered the smoking mess but could find no remains of anyone. They spotted the farmer plowing a field not too far away as if nothing had happened and hurried over to the man's tractor.

"Hank," the sheriff yelled, panting and out of breath, "Did you see this terrible accident happen?"

"Yep. Sure did," the farmer mumbled unconcerned, cutting off the tractor's engine.

"Do you realize that is Air Force One, the airplane of the President of the United States?"

"Yep," the farmer replied.

"Were there any survivors?"

"Nope. They's all kilt straight out," the farmer answered, "I done buried them all myself. Took me most of the morning."

"President Obama is dead?" the sheriff asked.

"Well," the farmer grumbled, restarting his tractor. "He kept a-saying he wasn't... But you know how bad that sumbitch lies..."

The virtue of theft..

Clueless and Incompetent..
Thank God for block quotes in HTML; it would allow me to escaped charges of plagiarism. There was a citaiton on Drudge attributing yet another whine by this incompetent pantload POTUS we are saddled with:
"I suspect that most people in Cincinnati would acknowledge that I've tried real hard, and we haven't gotten the Republicans to engage on a whole range of issues that, I wish had happened," Obama said in an interview with WLWT-TV in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"Part of what I think needs to happen in this election is the voters once again have to send a message, 'We want common sense ideas. We don't folks who are just saying no to everything. Even stuff, traditionally [they] were in favor of," Obama said.

The first (or best, or oldest, or whatever) comment in the wake of this pathetic mewling by El Presidente Downgrade kind of nails it. Here it is, unredacted and in full bloom:
CarlosLumpuy [Moderator] 8 hours ago

The President says, "most people would acknowledge that I've tried real hard".

—The same President that for nearly four years has blamed his own trackless failures and protracted ineffectiveness on his predecessor, President Bush, when for his first two years in office his party had majorities and control of both the House and the Senate as well as the White House.

When that started to wear thin, he blamed a "particularly harsh Winter".

When it wasn't the snow anymore, he then blamed the Arab Spring, the uprisings in Egypt and the shortages of oil from Libya to Europe.

Then we were led to believe that his economic recovery plans of hundreds of billions in deficit spending could not withstand the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Tsunami in Japan, floods in the mid-west, and finally an earthquake and a tropical storm both within a week.

The President tells us that the villains are mother nature, big oil, wall street, corporations, the bankers, the insurance industry, the coal miners, the millionaires and billionaires, congress, global warming, and the Texas wild fires.

How are we are going to get back on track with an administration whose policies work contrary to an expanding private sector from which all of our prosperity comes —the creators of real sustaining jobs within organizations that have essential private risk taking and recourse to keep them going concerns with recurring and regular payrolls.

Dump this creed of redistributive wealth by government ration including a Secretary of Agriculture who sees his primary job as increasing participants in the SNAP Food Stamp program that now number 46 million Americans and is now spending $20 million in an advertising campaign seeking even more participants.

Dump this administration that believes in the folly of telling Americans that the collective will well provide for their individual healthcare.

Dump this administration that sees the federal government on a street corner handing out a $1,000 a second and thinks the line will someday get shorter, instead of bringing restraints on federal appropriations that are clearly unsustainable with a public debt nearing $16 trillion, that is now more than GDP, and 40 cents of every dollar spent by government today is borrowed.

There shall be consequences to this President’s legacy of multiple trillions of deficit spending — more than any other administration of government in the history of the world.

How easy it is to govern when you just spend, spend, spend, spend, spend without restraint, instead of rising to the occasion, taking responsibility and making hard decisions like the rest of us outside of Washington are having to do during these hard times —and we're told, "I've tried real hard".

At what?

Just last week at a high school in Durham, New Hampshire this President told an audience of high school students,

“You can decide that instead of restricting access to birth control or defunding Planned Parenthood, we should make sure that in this country, women control their own health care choices. That’s up to you”.

—equating the failure of public funding of contraceptive birth controls and abortions the same as restricting access to the same.

Again, this is a President who chooses the venue of a high school to say all this.

This is the same President who rewards Sandra Fluke and her outspoken college behavior at Georgetown University with a telephone call from the White House last March.

At every opportunity this President repeatedly tells our young people at commencement how our Constitution is a "fundamentally flawed document" as he seeks to disassociate our young from the founding fathers of our republic and inculcates a huge false sense of entitlement in our young with his own revisionist account of American history.

Just what message is this to our young people from

the President of the United States, and just what business does he have in doing this at all ?

This, together with seeking more and more on food stamps shows us that what you've tried so real hard at is to further the demoralization and debasement of American society.

I conclude the "fundamental change" of this collectivist President is a willful and deliberate attempt to separate our young people from their own parents, grandparents and any religious instruction, disassociate them from America's founding and its noble history, and to undermine and destroy our American culture altogether with this spineless rhetoric of impotence and mendacity.

It is this depravity, degeneracy, and decadence of a secular creed that simply must be defeated.

Need your help out there..

We gun owners here in California here are under yet another assault (if you will excuse the expression) on our right to bear arms. Many years ago in a liberal galaxy far, far away, the unelightened Feds sought to outlaw what they called Assault Rifles. These were defined, for the purposes of this law as:
Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:

  • Folding or telescoping stock
  • Pistol grip
  • Bayonet mount
  • Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
  • Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades, though strangely, this applies only to muzzle mounted grenade launchers and not those which are mounted externally)
(A note to concerned readers: I have not used my grenade launcher in years!)

The law only outlawed weapons manufactured in the future; it grandfathered in weapons already legally owned and registered. It was passed and signed immediately into law by President Cohibatator ~~ presumably between diddling interns with huge Havanas. It was also a 10-year law that expired..

..except out here in the People's Republic of Kalifornia. As you may expect, the laws here are draconian ("..are some of the strictest in the United States") and the law forbidding assault weapon ownership predates the federal ban by five years. They are still in force. By the way, it should be noted that several times attempts to re-institute the Federal AWB have failed to make it into law, notably a humiliating 9-89 vote defeat by our beloved menopausal-grandmother-and-only-slightly-smarter-than-Barbara-Boxer Senator Diane Feinstein.

But I ramble.

One of the definitions and disqualifiers of so-called assault weapons out here is the so-called detachable magazine. This point was circumnavigated by the so-called bullet button:
Bullet Button
The California assault weapon ban has been largely circumvented by minor design changes by gun manufacturers. One of the most common modifications is a "bullet button", which modifies a rifle so that the magazine is not removable without the use of a tool - in this case, the tool being a bullet, or other tool, which presses a button (The button is designed so that a finger alone cannot press it ). Weapons with this feature no longer have a "detachable magazine" within the assault weapons definition, and therefore may be exempt depending on the other requirements.

The recent court case Haynie v Pleasanton validated that a Bullet Button is legal and guns that have one installed do not qualify as assault weapons.[31]

The term "bullet button" was coined due to the need to use the tip of a bullet to release the magazine from the gun. many tools have been devised to make it easier and faster to drop the clip from the gun. Because the California law states that you must use an external tool not attached to the gun, the most popular tool, the "magnet button" that sticks on the bullet button is illegal. Of the available tools that are external to the gun the "ThumBee", an elastic band with a "stinger" that slides over the thumb appears to be the fastest and cheapest legal solution. Whatever tool you choose, be sure it is legal because if your gun is determined to be an assault weapon it is a felony and could result in jail time and/or confiscation of your entire gun collection.
Well, as the result of a typically breathless editorial piece by the CBS affiliate that has motivated California State Senator Leland Yee  (D-San Francisco, of course) to gut an existing agricultural bill, SB 249, and use it as a vehicle for banning the bullet button. Without wandering into he weeds, a follow-up of the CBS article can be found here and below is a is a video that responds to the controversy from the gun owner's perspective.

Interestingly, there is a feeling abroad in the land in the wake of the recent DC handgun ban SCOTUS rulings, that tinkering around the edges of the 2nd Amendment will cause the efforts of gun control proponents to blow up in their faces. In the interest of brevity, here is one person's opinion:
Vince Warde · Top Commenter
Sen. Yee should think carefully before pushing this bill. It is going to be a very hard bill to write narrowly so that it only affects the "magnetic mag release". There is no doubt that placing this device on a Bullet Button equipped rifle (with prohibited features) is already a felony. Is it really necessary to ban the button?

I think Sen. Yee's real target is the Bullet Button itself. This is just stupid. These guns are already crippled. They can only use ten round mags and are slow to reload. Merely inserting a hi-capacity magazine, even a legally owned one, is a felony.

Furthermore, if the Bullet Button is banned, it will almost certainly lead to the loss of the entire assault weapons law. Here's how:

1) Most of the weapons generically banned by feature are - according to the Heller/McDonald SCOTUS decisions - protected by the 2nd amendment because they are in "common use" by citizens.

2) The best - and really the only - defense the state of CA can make is that these guns (such as the AK47 and AR15) are not banned at all. They are merely limited in the interest of public safety.

3) Therefore the Bullet Button, ironically is the salvation of the assault weapons ban. Take the bullet button option away and getting the federal courts to strike down the ban is just a matter of time.

Before blowing this off, gun control advocates should remember that you all thought the DC handgun ban would be upheld. You lost. DC has continued to loose - including a loss at the DC Court of Appeals, which struck down long gun registration - let alone a ban.

Therefore gun control advocates would be wise to oppose this bill.
It would be nice of you all out there would send Senator Yee an e-mail voicing your opposition to what he is attempting to do. However, do not expect a receptive audience. Nonetheless, here is his e-mail address:
senator.yee@senate.ca.gov

Please be polite and respectful when you make your points. He won;t be listening, but no sense giving him any -- er -- ammunition.

There is a petition to stop this and I ask that you at least sign it and you are encouraged to visit the Gun Owners of California web site for more news and for ways you can help.

We out here on the frontier appreciate your helping us hold onto our firearms.

UPDATE: Here is a rather interesting analysis of this bill done by the law offices of Jason Davis of the law firm Davis and Associates at the behest of the CalGuns fFoundation. Mr Davis concludes rather ominously:

Again, anything you can do to help us. Remember, if they are successful here, then they will eventually be successful in your state.

Jobs report for June blows chunks..

Play time in the vomitorium. Today's BLS jobs numbers came in like the previous two this quarter: a huge sack of crap-doodle. The three-month average of added jobs was 75,000 making it the worst hiring quarter in two years and, put together, less than the 243,000 created in January. Also, there were some warts among the patches of acne as well (below courtesy of Ed Morrissey over at Hot Air and other sources):
  • One-third of the hiring came as a result of temporary jobs
  • More people went on government disability than were given a job (85,000 v. 80,000)
  • The unemployment rate remained at 8.2%
  • The unemployment and underemployment rate surged to 14.9%
  • Unemployment among blacks rose to 14.4%
  • Unemployment among Hispanics at 11%
  • Civilian labor force participation rate remains low at 63.8%
And our Beloved Leader is roaring around the country in his Canadian-made buses, Betting on America (yet another slogan) and campaigning on these numbers, characterizing them as a "step in the right direction". Here is this fool's actual statement on this subject -- sans even the remotest acknowledgement that the job market's tanked since January:

Can anyone -- not on life-support in an ICU -- be any more clueless than this clown and the 350 mirror-fogging mouth-breathers that slurp up such brazenly huckstered snake-oil applause lines like his?

Romney sums up the problem nicely in a quasi-debate response:

..so, while you contemplate all of this, go back and reconsider that little morsel offered up above.
More workers joined the federal government’s disability program in June than got new jobs, according to two new government reports, a clear indicator of how bleak the nation’s jobs picture is after three full years of economic recovery.

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

As Investors Business Daily further notes, that isn’t the exception in the Obama recovery, but the rule:

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama’s economic recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

..all in all, no bread and a huge bite of Obama's latest served up crap-sandwich.

"The poor bastards.."

Some words to remember from Bill Whittle on this Fourth of July:

..his last words was a quote lifted from a medic in Bastogne durign the Battle of the Bulge:
At the hospital set up in the town, "I looked around and never saw so many wounded men. I called a medic over and said, 'Hey, how come you got so many wounded people around here? Aren't we evacuating anybody?' "

"Haven't you heard?" the medic replied. "I haven't heard a damn thing." "They've got us surrounded—the poor bastards."
