Bright, Shiny Things and Rational Thought!

Over at Hot Air, there is a running mantra (a meme) that refers to "shiny things" and it alludes to The Pantload's campaign attempting to distract the soon-to-be-voting public from this SCOAMF's pathetic and abysmal record as POTUS (with particular attention to his miserable record on the economy).

An example of this is Obama's recent affinity for the subject matter of same-sex marriage and gay rights and all of that hoo-hah. It is, of course, nothing but a cynical ploy to Hoover up more campaign bux from his ultra-lib Hollywood sycophants, get the gay community to open up their wallets, and otherwise create a ruckus.

Needless to say, the fifth-column, fourth estate tongue-bathing MSM is complicit in this effort. Case in point: Romney's alleged bullying and shearing of a high school mate..way back in 1965. The WaPo article, of course, timed to coincide with The Pantload's "coming out" party on ABC.

But, sometimes even when they do address the economy, they shamelessly obscure the facts as skillfully as one of those street-side 3-card Monty dealers. The facts are that a recent poll over at USA Today supposedly paints an imminent picture of a rosy economy: Americans more optimistic economy is looking up, poll says.

So, from the headline, one gathers it;s another puff piece for Plugs and The Pantload. Recovery Summer -- after three resets -- is finally upon us?

Wrong, buffalo breath. To sum things up succinctly, I call upon a comment from one of my favorite Hot Air regulars, Rational Thought (emphasis added):
Oh my gosh. This is unbelievable! Click over to the story. The USA Today headline is: “Americans more optimistic economy is looking up, poll says.” But that isn’t what they polled at all. They polled on the economy a year from now, but wrote a headline that suggests people think the economy is improving now, which they do not — 71% rate the economy as “poor.”

And then you have to read deep into the story to find that a majority — 55% — believe the economy will improve if Romney is elected, and only 46% say that if Obama is re-elected. 27% say the economy would worsen in a Romney first term; 37% say it would worsen in Obama’s second term. Romney’s unfavorables are down to 41%; Obama’s are up to 46%. This poll is devastating for Obama. Devastating. And his media lapdogs have tried to put a shiny Obama bow on it.

This commenter's thoughts over on HA always bring a smile to my face because he's..well..so rational!

  3. Reminds me of a controversial song from 1986, obscure to most unless you're a fan of New Wave and electronica. The song in question is called "New Dress" from my absolute fave band of all time, Depeche Mode. The song lists tragic headlines from the news and then says "Princess Di is wearing a new dress..." (hence the controversy). Late in the song one line says: "Prospects better, Premier says....within sight are Golden Days...". Kinda painting the same faux rosy picture.

  4. Steve,

I was always taken with their version of "Route 66". Somehow it's a little more compelling that Bobby Troup's. Though that was a good one.
